Author’s note: Linford Jarrett, born in 1964 in Jamaica, is my father. I call him “Ev,” short for his Jamaican nickname "Everton,” which was a few more syllables than I could manage as a child. Ev married my mom and came to Rhode Island when he was 29 in 1993, two weeks before my 4th birthday.
If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

To my younger self - It’s not to follow flesh.

When you find the Father up there, then you realize that anything you do on this Earth - that's going to be your spiritual judgment, because the flesh is not going to be judged by the flesh. The flesh is going to go to the carcass. It’s going to go to the mortuary or the cemetery.
How do you navigate regret?

Regret is a learning curve, but you don't dwell on it cause it's already regret.

Oh, I love myself. I’m not even proud, I love myself, my brother. Love it, love it, love it.

My beard. Because this is when I finally moved into myself. I said when I shear my beard, that's not me, I'm still taking off. So I come into myself and said, okay, this is me now.

If you look at the lion, I look at the animal kingdom, none of them use scissors unless mankind adds that to them. If everything left the way how God did it then it will grow the way it’s supposed to grow. And the same thing with the beard.
